What Is a Pregnancy Calculator?
A pregnancy calculator estimates your due date and tells you how far along you are in your pregnancy. It calculates based on the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP) using Naegele's rule: add 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your LMP.
While the average pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks, only about 5% of babies are born exactly on their due date. Most healthy deliveries occur between weeks 37 and 42.
Pregnancy Milestones by Trimester
Pregnancy is divided into three trimesters, each with important developmental milestones:

How Pregnancy Duration Is Calculated
Pregnancy is typically dated from the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP), even though conception usually occurs about two weeks later. This means that during the first two weeks of your pregnancy, you were not actually pregnant yet.
If you know your exact conception date, the calculator can also estimate from that point. An ultrasound in the first trimester is generally the most accurate method for confirming gestational age.
