Pace Calculator

Calculate running or cycling pace, speed, and finish time.

Whether you are training for a marathon, improving your 5K time, or just starting your running journey, understanding your pace is essential. Our free pace calculator helps you determine your running pace, finish time, or distance based on the values you provide.

What Is a Pace Calculator?

A pace calculator is a tool that helps runners and walkers determine their speed, finish time, or distance. Pace is typically expressed as minutes per mile or minutes per kilometer — for example, a pace of 5:30 per km means you cover one kilometer in 5 minutes and 30 seconds.

Knowing your pace helps you set realistic race goals, plan training sessions, and track your improvement over time.

Common Race Distances

Here are standard race distances and typical finish times for recreational runners:

5K (3.1 miles)25–35 minutes
10K (6.2 miles)50–70 minutes
Half Marathon (13.1 miles)1:45–2:30 hours
Marathon (26.2 miles)3:30–5:00 hours
Ultra Marathon (50K+)5:00+ hours

How to Calculate Your Pace

The basic pace formula is: Pace = Time ÷ Distance. For example, if you run 10 km in 55 minutes, your pace is 55 ÷ 10 = 5:30 per km.

To find your finish time from pace: Time = Pace × Distance. If your pace is 6:00 per km and you are running a half marathon (21.1 km), your estimated finish time is 6 × 21.1 = 126.6 minutes, or about 2 hours and 7 minutes.

Tips for Improving Your Pace

  • Include interval training (speed work) in your weekly routine
  • Build your mileage gradually — increase by no more than 10% per week
  • Incorporate tempo runs at a comfortably hard pace
  • Strengthen your core and legs with cross-training exercises
  • Focus on proper running form: slight forward lean, midfoot strike, relaxed shoulders
  • Allow adequate recovery between hard training sessions
